2014 Election: Morgan, Maureen

For Change, For You, For Jersey.

This election comes at a time of great challenges and opportunities for Jersey. I recently conducted a brief survey to find out which issues cause the greatest worries for islanders. The top concerns were jobs and immigration, closely followed by healthcare and housing. The number one complaint about the States is that too much time is being wasted on issues like government reform, while islander’s real needs are being ignored.

I am unhappy at the ‘us and them’ situation which has developed in the States recently and believe that progress is best made by discussion and co-operation between people who all have the same high ideals of a better and fairer society for all islanders. I am not a single issue politician like some who are standing in these elections, but somebody who can see the bigger picture.

I am not a member of any political party or group. I am standing as a totally independent candidate who will listen to voters and act according to your best interests on all issues. I will never join any party, as I would not want to have that ability compromised.

I am passionate about improving the quality of life for everyone in Jersey. Unemployment, pay freezes and job insecurity are causing concern for thousands of islanders. I believe we need a strong program of supporting business development to create secure jobs, and generate new income to return this island to a state of prosperity.

My next priority is healthcare: waiting lists are growing ever longer and some parts of the service – such as mental health care – are simply not fit for purpose.

I am a founder member and Honorary Secretary of The Jersey Pride Association, a group which is planning the first ever Pride event in Jersey, which will take place next year.

I was Maureen Aubert until I married in 1983. I am a Jersey woman, who has lived in St Saviour all my life except for a short time studying and working in Bristol in the late 70s and early 80s. Most importantly I live in the district, a mere stone’s throw from the Parish Hall in fact!  I grew up in Grasett Park and was a scholarship student at Jersey College for Girls. I have a BSc Honours Degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in biology and chemistry.

I am passionate about my island and my parish, and have always hoped to one day have the privilege to represent you in the States assembly. At 54 I now feel I have the skills and experience that would make me a valuable member of the States

I am an eCommerce specialist and technical author. I have been self-employed since 1986 in various IT rôles including systems analysis, programming and network management. I am both self-motivated and a good team player.

I hope you will choose me to be one of your two Deputies for this district.
